Season's of Change

"To everything there is a season and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven."
Ecclesiasties 3:1

Oh me...oh my, our hearts are filled with sadness and sorrow *sniff-sniff*. This is a post we did not want to write. But unfortunately the day has come.

We have decided to close the doors at this location for The Cottonwood House *wiping the tears from our eyes* Yes, you read correctly... we agonized over our decision but due to many, many different circumstances it is something we feel we must do.

"Dreams are Free...so Free your DREAMS!!!"
~Astrid Alauda

For the last 5 years we have poured our heart and soul and physical bodies (that furniture is HEAVY you know) into first "Bittersweet Antiques" and then what you now know as "The Cottonwood House."
It has been our dear mom's dream to create a beautiful, peaceful and inspirational environment for each and every customer that has come in. And in our oh so humble opinion she has gone above and beyond that dream!!!! Cottonwood fulfilled a life-long passion she had but even though this season is over we know that whatever she will do in the future she will SUCCEED MIGHTILY!!! You go Mama!!

"Wait on the Lord be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart...wait I say, on the Lord."
Psalm 27:14

Now if you know our mom you may be wondering what she will do next! Well, as this verse implies we are in a bit of a waiting period BUT we have some ideas brewing (really good one's) . Although we will no longer be selling from our location here at the barn you have not seen the last of us...so stay tuned to this blog for events and and future plans.

With Smiles...
The Cottonwood Sister's

A letter from ME *Vern:

Hi to all my blogger friends. I am indeed sad and sorry today because I I need to let you all know that I am closing my shop. "The Cottonwood house." I was not expecting this to happen but the past year we have seen a decline in sales. This is not easy for me to do but necessary. I have loved meeting so many of you at the shop and I will miss you. I will also miss what I love to do the most and that is playing house everyday at my shop. I will miss being able to decorate, rearrange furniture, looking for something new to bring in that would bring a smile to a customers face. I will miss going to an auction and leaving there with a truck load of treasures. Working at the Cottonwood House was a dream that I am so glad I was not only able to dream about but to actually have been a part of. But, Even though I am leaving the big blue barn doesn't mean I am throwing in the towel for good. Besides, once a shabby chic chix. always a shabby chic chix!!! I do have a few idea up my sleeve. So stay tuned.
Now, in order to liquidate a barn full of furniture, accessories, shutters, doors and lots of great used clothing, we are having a great big sale. For starters most everything is at least 25% off unless already marked down. But hurry, I have a feeling things will fly out of here. Everything MUST GO.!!! We will be out by Aug 31th if not before.
Ok, SIGH!! I think I will go to bed and hope I had a bad dream.

We're under Attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's right....this oh so cute clematis vine is taking over our store...what is the problem you ask...
well...it is cute but it's coming in our door...ok that's not so bad....
just push it out of your way...no big deal....EXCEPT.......
it's coming through our wall...that's right, you are looking at a picture INSIDE the store with no holes or widows!!! How does that happen? The vine is coming through the wall...do we cut it? Leave it? Oh the problems we have!!!

When we're not together at CW, we're together on the water.

Picture this: boat, water, blue sky, smiles, watermelon, music, loud motors, green trees & relaxation.
What a WONDERFUL DAY!!!

But before heading out on the big blue (or green) glass...we first had to drive the boat under the bridge. Hummm?

Scouting out the situation...
Do you think we'll make it?

It was definitely cutting it short...but we slipped right on through with a few feet to spare.

Meet our captain...AKA Dad

Sonj, cute little Eli & Bekah

*Livin' the Life*

There she is...not only does she have a drive for decorating, she's also got a need for speed!!!

I think he's wondering when it's his turn...

I forgot to mention...this was our new toy.
Welcome to the family Mr. Jet, you're a definite keeper.

After an hour or so of persuading the little guys...they finally said "YES, I wanna go!"

By the end of the day...this is pretty much what we all looked like.

It was a perfect summer day, full of lots of memories!!!
Until next time...

Just Another Day...

Saturday, July 4...while everyone was out and about doin' the picnic thing, my mom and I were living life here at CW.

After doing the normal routine stuff...
turning on all 10,000 lights (slight exaggeration), setting up outside, making coffee, checking the business e-mail, sorting and organizing Ele Ela's, and sweeping off the dusty front porch...

it was time to sit down and wait for some creative juices to flow from our brains.
Yep, it was time to rearrange!!!
After coming up with a plan, I realized...

this was going to be a major project & it could potentially take ALL DAY.

So to give us some energy...we once again got our fix at the neighboring Turkey Hill & then dove right into it!
After lots of pushing, pulling & lifting...we were spent.

So hey, what could be better then a break?

A nap!!!

And a few minutes later we were up and at it again.

And a few hours later, we were done!
Take a look at the changes...

By the way...most times when my mom gets the urge to change the ENTIRE store... in my eyes, it seems like a lot of work and a little overwhelming.
But the truth is, I LOVE IT & I'm thankful I get to do it with HER!

#2 Post of Doug and Jessie's Special Day!

Here's a few more pics of
D&J's Wedding...

D&J...lovebirds, newlyweds, best friends, hubby & wife

More loves birds!!! D&J...follow your parents example in marriage and you'll be in for a wonderful journey together!

Boys Boys and more Boys! What a bunch of cuties!

Little Eli's shoe came off while walking down...i think it probably got stuck in the mud. The problem was solved quickly after stopping the large caravan of munchkins and picking it up.

Jessie's mom did all the flowers, check out her blog for more pictures of the wedding from the brides mom's perspective. *All things beautiful* She's got an amazing gift!

View of the ceremony area...muddy, but still beautiful

The TENT!

Chocolate cigars...in honor of D&J's last name "Smoker"

This is pretty much what everyone's feet looked like by the end of the night!
